You know those skinny Asian girls who can eat whatever they want and still be skinny?
...yeah, I don’t have one of those anatomies.
From the previous post, I talked about beauty routine that can clear cystic acne and get beautiful skin.
But we all know that in order to have healthy glowy skin it takes more than just facial products.
It takes a healthy diet, quality sleep, hydration, exercise and even the proper mindset.
The thing with health is that it’s not like you eat healthy in one day, or one week, or one month then you’re all set.
No, it’s not like that, it’s an everyday commitment like an exercise.
You have to constantly make the right choices that are beneficial to your health.
I used to suffer from hormonal imbalance issues and I also have a sensitive stomach.
Those two usually can trigger a lot of health issues like bloating and acne when I eat the wrong foods.
It wasn't until I start to be conscious of the foods I eat then I start to notice improvements in my body.
I favor natural healing through foods and Chinese medicine instead of prescribed medications.
I read, research, and did a bunch of testing to find what foods work for me and what doesn’t.
I’m sharing with you what I learned and I hope you find it useful in some way.
Tip #1: Think like a Smart Investor
A 'smart investor' is someone who knows how to builds good credit and when to spend it wisely.
Just as in life, you’ll want to spend less energy on digesting foods that do not give you the proper nutrients and invest in quality food that is more beneficial.
Typically, meals in grocery stores, restaurants or even on the airplane are prepped with additional flavorings and ingredients that can make the food more appealing and tasty.
But the additional stuff may not be good for your health.
There are tons of processed foods that contain a lot of chemicals, preservatives, food coloring, artificial sweeteners, overload sodium, gluten, bad oils and stuff that can chip away your health each time you eat.
To be a smart health investor, you need to be conscious of everything you put in your mouth and you need to be aware of the reaction of your body when you eat this food.
Reactions such as heartburn, bloating, acne, fatigue and such are all symptoms that certain food you ate is not agreeing with your body and you need to eliminate them.
Things that damage your health credit are usually:
✦ Processed Juice
✦ Processed wheat products
✦ Processed snacks.
✦ High fructose corn syrup
✦ Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
✦ Low-quality oils like canola oil, peanut oil, palm oil, soybean oil, vegetable oil, and partially hydrogenated oil.
Sometimes, dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt can also trigger health issues as well.
After cutting out foods that cause my body to react poorly, I start to notice the change in my body.
Having less acne is one of the biggest improvement and it’s a rewarding feeling.
Now, you may be thinking, but I want to enjoy life and eat junk food from time to time.
Well, everything in moderation is the key.
Like I said before, health is like a credit card, you either be a wise spender or you may have trouble with your health debt.
Be conscious of what you eat and spend wisely on your body.
Tip#2: Hydrate like a mermaid
Water helps to get rid of toxins in our body, regulate body temperature, helps with concentration and so much more benefits.
I highly recommend fruit infused water or herbal tea to hydrate yourself if you don’t want to drink plain water.
Some of my favorite delicious drinks are:
Refreshing with full of vitamin C. A great drink that can detox the body and keeps the bowels regular.
I really love the Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut from the Yogi tea collection. The flavor is delicious and soothing, and it helps promote beautiful skin and restful sleep.
Another wonderful tea to promote sleep is the Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Chamomile. The chamomile is great for digestion, it's soothing for body stress, and it's great for sleep because it's caffine-free.
If you are a fan of green tea like I am, you can try the Kombucha green tea from the Yogi collection or get Japanese green tea from Amazon.
To promote a healthy body, it’s best to drink at least 8 cups of water a day.
If you are awake, say from 7 am to 10 pm, that’s about one 8 fluid ounce water every 1.8-2 hours.
Tip#3: Healthy fat is your best friend
One may think that in order to be skinny you have to eat low-fat foods or cut fat out all the fat from the diet.
I used to think like that and it’s one of the misconceptions I wish to tell my younger self that it’s actually not healthy to skip healthy fat.
Healthy fat is essential for us to function properly.
It helps with:
✦ Regulate cardiovascular health
✦ Stimulate brain function
✦ Improves metabolism
✦ Balance hormones
✦ Promotes blood circulation
✦ Eliminate excessive cravings
Eating the right fat actually not only energize your body correctly, it also assists weight loss!
I learn this concept from a book written by Brian Perlmutter called Brain Maker
If you want to be healthy and fit, I highly recommend you read this book as it explains in detail how the nutrients in healthy fat can benefit our brain and body.
It also has a food list that’s easy for you to follow.
Some of the healthy fats include:
✦ Chickpeas or hummus
✦ Olive oil
✦ Coconut oil
✦ Omega-3 fats
By including healthy fat in your diet, you can benefit from the nutrients that promote beautiful skin and keeping fit.
Tip#4: Substitute foods like a boss
The simplest thing you can do to enjoy the foods you love and stay healthy & fit is to substitute your food choices from unhealthy to healthy selections.
That means, substitute everything that is not beneficial to your body with a healthier alternative.
Instead of prepackaged sauces or chemical flavoring on the shelf, consider cooking with natural herbs, spice, and citrus.
Spices like cayenne pepper and turmeric are very beneficial for the brain function and can boost metabolism.
✦ Substitute prepackaged sauces with natural herbs, spices, and citrus to add flavor to your dishes.
✦ Substitute fried chicken to bake chicken in the oven.
✦ Substitute white sugar with applesauce in bakings.
✦ Substitute wheat noodles or pasta with zucchini noodles.
✦ Substitute white rice by making cauliflower rice.
✦ Substitute cow’s milk with almond milk as a healthier alternative.
✦ And you can also learn how to make healthy pizza with cauliflower instead of pizza dough.
Using substitution hacks like this allows you to enjoy your food and keeping healthy & fit.
Tip#5: Food preparation to keep you sane
I know, life is not easy and it may be hard to find time to cook and eat healthy.
The key is to just prepare all your foods weekly in just one day.
Prep them, cook them, put them in containers and freeze them.
If you have a partner or kids, ask them to help you prepare the foods so that you can make meals faster when everything is already prepared in the container.
It’s actually a great way to spend time with your loved ones because you are making meals together and enjoying them.
Prep your food ahead of time means you can ensure you are able to eat healthy at work, you don’t have to cook when you get home, you don’t have to think what to eat when you are exhausted.
Just pop it in the microwave or heat it on the stove to enjoy your healthy delicious meal.
The last thing is, Find what motivates you
Nothing will matter unless we are motivated.
We all want to have a supermodel body with full of energy.
The reality is, some of us have to work harder to achieve what we want and it takes a lot of commitment and self-awareness to move towards your goal.
And that’s in everything.
The willpower and motivation are what can get you to achieve your goals.
